What is a Timeless Design and How Does It Inspire Slow Shopping?

One of the cornerstones of All The Good Things From BC's mission is to provide a platform for circulating timeless designs of high quality, originating in and on the lands now called beautiful British Columbia.

...But what do we mean by this?

timeless design

A timeless design is an artwork, shape or material of a product that does not lose its value over time. In today's fast-paced environment, it's our mission to bring people products that can be used long-term, created with high quality materials, distinctive designs and sustainability at its heart. In other words...we want our gifts to last longer than a ‘holiday souvenir’ and bring meaning back to purchasing. Timeless designs = sustainable designs.

When you select any of the products from our virtual shelves, we want you to imagine using it five, ten or more years. There's nothing wrong with new things and trends, but All The Good Things From BC prefers to showcase and support makers and companies that look beyond short term horizons. The only trend worth following for us is the trend of slowing down - slow fashion, slow food, slow purchasing - the art of shifting your focus from short term profit to long term gain. These concepts go hand in hand with our love for sustainability and mindful curating.

We’ve put together a couple of tough questions for our customers to ask the next time they think about hitting the checkout button or hand over their hard-earnt monies:

1/ How is owning this new thing going to positively impact my life or the life of the person I am going to give it to?

2/ Five years from now, do I see myself or my giftee still using the gift and basking in its beauty?

3/ Can I re-gift or re-purpose the product?

4/ Who is my purchase supporting - a wealthy CEO or an independent retailer which gives back by more than just paying taxes?

5/ Is the artwork or designs properly sourced and credited?

If your answers are positive, then welcome on board - it's called slow shopping.

Whether it’s a piece of artwork for your home, a unique coffee mug or a colourful Sasquatch snap back hat by the well known Coast Salish carver Francis Horne Sr., every product is chosen for its usefulness and the way it expresses the beautiful, wild and free spirit of BC...which is also why many of our collections are centered around Northwest Coast art and designs - because they tick all our boxes. You can read more about our curating process in this blog post.

We invite nature lovers, art lovers, and everyone in-between to shop with All The Good Things From BC for timeless designs and unique gifts of high quality. If there’s any products you would love to see in our store, be sure to get in touch and let us know.
